Permanent Megastructures: Making Every Run Matter

Flowrate has always been about survival—but now it’s about legacy too.

In the latest version, we’ve started adding support for permanent megastructures. These are massive constructions that persist across all runs, slowly building up over time and unlocking new strategies, safer routes, or long-term benefits.

What is a megastructure?

Think of it like a checkpoint, a bridge, or a beacon.

Some megastructures make movement easier in specific regions. Others let you access special planets that only appear once a structure is built. The idea is to reward players who survive long enough to contribute—even if they eventually die.

So yes, your final moments might be spent crashing into a barren planet. But if you’ve banked some progress? That death helped.

How do you build them?

You’ll find rare resources scattered across the galaxy. Some planets contain dormant megastructure cores—dead shells waiting for fuel, upgrades, or even planetary sacrifices.

The twist? Most megastructures take multiple runs to complete.

You won’t build them all in one go. But each run gets you closer.

Why this matters

Flowrate is a roguelite now. And that means progression needs to stretch beyond a single attempt.

These structures give players:

  • Long-term goals

  • Alternate routes and shortcuts

  • Unlockable perks (soon)

They also let us create new story hooks. What are these structures? Who built them before you?

We’ll answer that. Eventually.

In Flowrate, death isn’t the end. It’s just construction.
